At our Annual General Meeting on June 16th 2025, Dyslexia Canada was pleased to welcome a new board member and to celebrate the remarkable service of our outgoing director, Christine Staley.
Christine has been a driving force behind Dyslexia Canada since its earliest days. As our first Executive Director, she played a central role in building the organization from the ground up. Motivated by her own family’s journey navigating the public education system, Christine brought both personal passion and professional expertise to the work. A lawyer by training, she became a tireless advocate for children with dyslexia, helping to shape policy and drive meaningful change. Working alongside our founder, Keith Gray, Christine played a key role in supporting the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s Right to Read Inquiry, whose landmark report continues to influence literacy instruction across Ontario and beyond. After stepping down from the Executive Director role, Christine generously continued her service as a volunteer member of the Board. We are deeply grateful for her vision, dedication, and lasting impact on Dyslexia Canada and the many families we serve.
We are also delighted to welcome David Eliot to the Board. David, who has dyslexia himself, is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Ottawa as a member of the new Critical Surveillance and Security program, focusing on AI and data economies. He brings valuable lived experience and fresh perspective to the Board, and we look forward to the insight and expertise he will contribute to our work.
We extend our sincere thanks to all of our continuing Board members for their ongoing service and commitment. As we move into another year, we are excited to continue advancing our mission and making meaningful progress for children with dyslexia across Canada.
