Film Screenings
The Truth About Reading Documentary Screenings
Mark Your CalendarsJoin volunteers as they present screenings of the documentary, The Truth About Reading, in Calgary, Winnipeg & Saskatoon. Screenings are free to attend but registration is required as space is limited. Dyslexia Canada would like to thank the event sponsors who helped to make these important screenings possible.

Seating is limited and is available on a first come first served basis. No pre-registration is required for this viewing.
Description of the event: Dyslexia Canada and Decoding Dyslexia Alberta are proud to present a screening of the documentary The Truth About Reading. Break the silence and stigma surrounding illiteracy and sub-literacy and learn about proven solutions already available. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with local experts. Thank you to our sponsors, Mount Royal University, Left Unread and Dyslexia Canada. Refreshments will be served.

Description of the event: In celebration of dyslexia awareness month and the national Mark It Read campaign, Dyslexia Champions of Manitoba and Dyslexia Canada are inviting you to join us for a free screening of the documentary "The Truth About Reading" at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion about the positive changes happening from local to national levels. Enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar while networking with advocates, educators, clinicians, and families!

Description of the event: Join us for a free screening of the documentary "The Truth About Reading" on Oct. 19th at Bethany Manor. Following the film there will be a panel discussion about the positive changes happening from local to national levels. Expect to meet advocates, educators, clinicians, and families who have a vested interest in providing reading instruction accessible for all children. Registration required. Early Instruction to Prevent Reading Difficulties

Description of event: Dr. Georgiou, U of Alberta, is a renowned reading researcher with extensive experience working in Canadian schools. His research has shown what it takes to effectively teach foundational word reading skills to all young students. Dr. Georgiou will share findings and insights toward improving. Alicia Smith will also be on hand to share information about Dyslexia Canada and the new ONlit open access site for educators.
Flag Raisings
October 3rd, Springwater, Ontario - The Dyslexia Awareness flag raising is set for Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 - 11:00 am, at the Township of Springwater Administration Buildings (2231 Nursery Road, Minesing)
October 21st, New Brunswick Legislature will raise the flag and light up red
October 26th, Grand Parade, Halifax, Nova Scotia - 8:30 am. The mayor will be in attendance for this flag raising.
October 26th, Province House, Halifax, Nova Scotia - The ceremony will begin at 11:00 am. Alicia Smith will be in attendance.
Summerside, PEI Will be flying the flag throughout the month
Yellowknife, NT The Yellowknife Literacy Outreach Centre will be flying the dyslexia awareness flag throughout the month
Ottawa, ON The city of Ottawa will fly the Dyslexia Awareness flag for the month
